Lead Acid Batteries (“LAB”) are considered the most cost-effective, safe and environmentally-friendly form of power storage which is commonly known and used as car/vehicle batteries as well as Uninterrupted Power Supply (“UPS”). LAB comprises three main components: lead, acid, and plastic which are separable and recyclable. At the end of its life cycle, waste LAB (WLAB) becomes a toxic and corrosive chemical waste and requires proper treatment. Any improper disposal of WLAB can cause long-term devastating consequences for rural soil and water systems, particularly in densely populated cities such as Hong Kong.HKBR is the one and only legal battery recycling plant in Hong Kong that provides a complete local process from collection to recycling of WLAB. Deploying state-of-the-art technology to ensure a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly solution, as well as fully compliant with the Basel Convention and Waste Disposal Ordinance (Cap. 354) (“WDO”) of Hong Kong. The visit includes an introduction of HKBR's entire treatment process as well as a site walk to the Breaker & Induction Furnace.Date:12 August 2023 (Sat)Time:10:00 am - 11:30 amVenue:Hong Kong Battery Recycling Centre LimitedAssembly time and venue:9:30 am @ TBCLanuage:CantoneseRegistration deadline:6 August 2023Clickherefor online registration:*Registration on first-come-first-served basis with priority given to IMechE members.
