Committee Structure

Our committee structure is intentionally flat to reflect the fact that we are an inclusive and accessible organisation, and that we share the burden of administration as equally as possible.

There is plenty of flexibility to adapt our committee structure to enable it to best serve the Area. For example, it is possible to introduce vice-positions, or to share (some) roles between two people. It is also possible for local colleges and universities to be represented on the committee.

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, and committed people to get involved and join us.

Chair

The Chair's primary role is to provide leadership, direction, and support to the rest of the committee. He or she is responsible to the Regional Chair for the activities and finances of the committee and must ensure that the committee operates within the Institution'sby-lawsandguidelines. He or she also has the casting vote in the event of a tie.

The Chair represents the Area Committee at meetings of the Regional Committee, which are held quarterly in Birmingham. He or she may also represent the Committee at meetings of the Young Members' Board (usually in London), if appropriate.

In consultation with the rest of the committee, the Chair determines how the Area will deliver its obligations to meet thestrategic objectivesof the Institution and Region. Typically, this involves planning a balanced programme ofeventsfor the year ahead. The Chairman is then responsible for delivering this programme.

IT Guru

The success of the Committee depends, in part, on the sharing of information. In order to help plan our events and keep track of activities across the Area, we would like to introduce a Volunteers' Wiki and an event tracking database. For this, we need an IT Guru!

The IT Guru is responsible for creating and maintaining these tools and for ensuring that all data is kept in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
