    A recent comprehensive programme of track testing has determined the benefits that could be achieved by: Variable-rate sanding (i.e. higher sand flow rates at higher speeds), and Distributed sanding (i.e. multiple sanders distributed along the train). The presentation will describe the testing programme and some of the issues that had to be overcome in order to realise its objectives

    Porterbrook and Wabtec will present on the Class 769 Flex 'tri-mode' train. The Class 769 Flex is a planned type of bi-mode multiple unit (BMU) The train is a conversion of the existing Class 319 electric multiple unit (EMU) through the addition of a pair of MAN diesel engines to drive ABB alternators for the existing electric traction systems.
