Summary

We have designed this course to enable you to appreciate the impact of design on all aspects of the operation of an end-to-end supply chain.

面向工程师参与在任何阶段的e process of bringing new products to the market, this course is designed to enable engineers to appreciate the impact of design on all aspects of the operation of an end-to-end supply chain, thus contributing to the sustained competitiveness of their organisation. Using case study examples, delegates will examine how design decisions can help or hinder the supply of high quality, competitive products that meet customer demand.

Upon completion, delegates will be equipped to implement practical improvements that are relevant to their own organisation to design products that are more aligned to the operational requirements of their organisation.

The course combines traditional views on design for manufacture, service and test with broader principles of lean, responsive supply chain design, together with the need to establish productive, collaborative relationships between all of the functions involved.

Delegates should attend this course if they are interested in understanding how the design decisions they make impact on later stages of the process and how they can better design with those effects in mind.

Delivery format

Delivered using virtual classroom technology, each of the four 2-hour virtual classrooms (VC) will focus on a different topics:

  • VC 1: Key principles of effective product lifecycle engineering
  • VC 2: Key principles
  • VC 3: Design for manufacture
  • VC 4: Design for assembly

Essential pre/post session activities required.

Who should attend?

This course is intended for engineers involved at any stage of the process of bringing new products to market.

How will I benefit?

After the course you will be able to:

  • Understand the impact of design on the cost and quality of the end product as well as flexibility of the service to market.
  • Understand the principles of Design for Manufacture, Design for Assembly, Design for Test and Design for Service.
  • Understand how manufacturing philosophy impacts on design.
  • Appreciate the value of engaging manufacturing, procurement and suppliers in the design process and its impact on speed and cost to market.
  • Consider how the principles introduced apply to your own organisation.
