Description

The Institution of Civil Engineers Yorkshire & Humber Retired Members Section (RICE) invites IMechE members and guests to attend the next event in their programme:

The Presentation:
The Hope Valley line connects Manchester and Sheffield through the Peak District National Park. This line provides an essential commuting line between the two cities and is also used frequently by freight. Since 2012, this line has been earmarked for capacity improvement due to increased demand in travel between the two cities and into the Peak District.

Abi Morgan will discuss the design and coordination of the reinforced earthwork slopes at Bamford and Dore, alongwith the challenges and constraints overcome during design and now into construction.

When completed, these works will be one of the biggest changes to the line since its creation in the 1800s. The Hope Valley Railway Upgrade will remove several bottlenecks between Manchester and Sheffield to allow passenger trains to overtake slower freight trains along the line.
