The UK rail industry is currently rolling out a new secure communications system to the UK rail network. GSM-R forms the voice element of this network and will deliver an inter-operable replacement for both NRN and CSR. The presentation will review the history of the GSM-R project to date, from the initial system development through the Strathclyde trial to the current national roll out of the GSM-R network and equipped rolling stock.
