Description
There are still a few places on this is a virtual workshop hosted by Midland Region aimed at encouraging adult participants to inspire and enthuse the next generation about STEM through fun, engaging design and build experiences and is sponsored by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
It involves a practical sessionin which participants will be guided through the construction of their own working model of an electric fan boat. This activity is very popular with primary schools who are keen to provide their pupils with enriching cross-curricula activities. It ties in with learning objectives in science and D&T, as well as the environmental issues of shipping emissions, air quality and climate change.
The workshop will be led by professional engineer and STEM ambassador Caroline Alliston, who has 12 years’ experience in STEM education. It will include insights into STEM engagement in primary schools, instructions on how to build the model and explanations of the science involved. There will be an opportunity to ask questions afterwards. The parts needed to construct the model will be posted out in advance to those who are booked onto the workshop.
您将需要提供自己的毡尖pen, ruler, scissors and Sellotape. If you don’t have a glue gun then please let us know (we may be able to assist). The activity can be conducted with double sided tape but is much more satisfactory when conducted with a glue gun! If you have a child of a suitable age (about 7-12) then they are welcome to build the model with you.
Hints will be given about how to conduct the activity in class when it is safe to do so. Free class packs of materials and components will be made available when you run the activity in school, as well as a lesson plan, PowerPoint and pupil worksheet.
