The meeting will be run on line hosted by our friends and colleagues from PWI Thames Valley section. The talk will be given by Matthew Savastano who has adjusted the title since last spring simply to AUCKLAND RAILWAYS. This will be a most interesting presentation. Matthew is a Fellow of the PWI, has worked on the upgrade of the Auckland system, and on other projects around the world, and is Technical Director of WSP Group UK.
Matthew will describe the history of railways in the Auckland area from their inception in the 19th century to the present day resurgence with the construction of the new cross-city link. The talk will outline the technical track standards used in the design of the route and the obstacles encountered, together with the interfaces with new rolling stock, electrification and signalling systems.
