As I take over from Martin Nash as Regional Chair I would like to thank him for his hard work over the past four years. I’m glad to say though that we will not be losing Martin’s talents and effort from the committee, as he will stay on as Past Chair to help me in the transition and in the committee’s work thereafter.
I would also like to welcome Simon Edwards back to the Regional committee. Simon has kindly agreed to take on the role of Vice Chair and, all being well, will take over as Chair in a couple of years time. After leaving the Regional committee in 2014 Simon was elected to IMechE Council and served 3 years before his job took him abroad for a few years. So Simon brings a wealth of valuable experience to the committee and is keen to rejuvenate the face to face interaction with our members as we emerge from the effects of the COVID pandemic.
I’d also like to thank all the other people who serve on the Regional, Area (Chiltern, Farnborough and Guildford, Oxford and Reading) and Young Member committees. Without the hard work, ideas and enthusiasm of these dedicated people there would be no talks, visits, educational activities, get registered events around the Region, so Thank You!
A key theme of activities by all the Thameswey committees is to inform and educate people about Engineering and through this to hopefully make people aware of the key role Engineers play in society. We also seek to encourage students of all ages to take up Science or Engineering as a career and for those that have started an Engineering career we are active in the IMechE membership process and so able to offer guidance and assistance to those considering seeking IEng or CEng qualification.
