But given the development of advanced seawater lubricated bearing systems\, th at eliminate the pollution risks associated with oil‐lubricated systems. \ nDo we still need the sterntube? The answer\, it seems\, is no. \nThe resu lts from a joint research project involving Thordon Bearings\, Shanghai Me rchant Ship Design &\; Research Institute (SDARI‐CSSC)\, National Techn ical University of Athens(NTUA) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) indi cate that a ship&rsquo\;s sterntube can be completely omitted to make bett er use of the available space.\n \; \;\n \;\nAbout our speaker :\n\n\n\n\n\nOriginally trained as a marine engineer in Ireland\, Tony sai led Western Europe for a few years before moving to Canada in 1987. He has worked in many roles and industries since then\, with primary experience in the nuclear field. Tony joined Thordon Bearings\, Burlington in 2021. O ver the last two decades Tony has completed several courses of study\, mos t of which have been with McMaster University.
